Chapter 597: Midnight Arrival
Chapter 597: Midnight Arrival
"Mr. Chang, hello. Please, take a seat," Lin Kuang said with a smile, acting as if he were the master of the place. Although his behavior seemed a bit excessive, Chang Chun didn’t mind; he seemed to find it perfectly normal. In fact, when Chang Yu had told him earlier this morning that Lin Kuang wanted to meet, Chang Chun had agreed right away.
As the leader of Hangcheng’s underworld, Chang Chun was well aware of the strength Lin Kuang possessed. Leaving aside his relationship with the Eagle Sect, Lin Kuang himself had wiped out the Dark Blood assassin organization. Top experts from the Assassin World were hunting him, yet he was still living freely, which alone showed just how formidable his power was. Chang Chun knew that while his own forces were decent, if Lin Kuang wanted him dead, he was certain he would be powerless to fight back. His death would be inevitable. Therefore, Chang Chun had agreed to the meeting immediately and had even arrived early to wait for him.
Lin Kuang took a seat, with Chang Chun sitting opposite him. Chang Yu and Lao Si stood behind Chang Chun.
"Mr. Lin, may I ask why you invited me here?" Chang Chun asked cautiously.
"There is indeed something I need to discuss. But it seems you’re already aware of my identity, Mr. Chang?" Lin Kuang asked with a smile, his gaze fixed on Chang Chun.
Chang Chun nodded. "Yes. While I don’t have the full picture, I know a few things."
"Good," Lin Kuang smiled faintly. "To be honest, I’m not here for anything major. If you’re willing, follow me."
He spoke calmly as he looked at Chang Chun, as if he were discussing the most ordinary thing in the world. Hearing this, Chang Chun’s heart shook, but he did his best to maintain a calm expression. To try and recruit him with just a single sentence... it was unbelievably arrogant.
"Mr. Lin, my Qinghu Gang might not be a top-tier organization, but it’s still considered a significant power in Hangcheng. For you to just demand my allegiance and the absorption of my forces... isn’t that going a bit too far?" Chang Chun tried to keep his tone even, but a hint of anger still slipped through. After all, he was the leader of Hangcheng’s underworld. Although he was wary of Lin Kuang’s strength, how could he agree to simply hand over his power?
Hearing this, Lin Kuang chuckled. "Is it? It doesn’t seem like you have a choice. If you refuse, I can easily cripple you and install a puppet from your Qinghu Gang to take your place. I don’t think that would be very difficult for me."
"Mr. Lin, are you threatening me?" Chang Chun asked, his face darkening.
"You could say that. Or maybe not. My request is simple: follow me. I won’t ask you to do anything on a regular basis. Unless something major happens, I generally won’t contact you. What you do is your business, and I have no intention of interfering in the affairs of your Qinghu Gang," Lin Kuang stated calmly.
Hearing his words, Chang Chun couldn’t help but frown. "If you don’t need us for anything, why do you want to take over my Qinghu Gang?" The point puzzled him, which was why he asked.
"No particular reason. I’ve already taken over the San Ye Sect, and the Qinghu Gang is above them, so I figured I might as well absorb you too," Lin Kuang replied serenely.
At this, Chang Chun nearly rolled his eyes. So, there’s no purpose at all in taking over my Qinghu Gang? Is he just toying with me? This... this is too humiliating! But as this thought crossed his mind, his expression changed. As the leader of Hangcheng’s underground, he was well aware of who was backing the San Ye Sect. Otherwise, he would have annexed them long ago.
This Lin Kuang actually managed to offend the Ye Family, too. The nerve of this guy... He doesn’t care about these Ancient Martial Arts families, so he’ll care even less about a minor secular power like mine. If I don’t agree, he’ll likely attack me, and my death will be certain! With this realization, Chang Chun made his decision. Besides, Lin Kuang isn’t demanding the Qinghu Gang to do anything specific. He just wants us to fall in line for now, which isn’t unacceptable. Moreover, when you’re under someone else’s thumb, you have to bow your head. If I let Lin Kuang kill me over this, it would be a truly tragic waste.
Thinking this, Chang Chun nodded. "Alright, I agree."
"Good. Then it’s settled for now, Mr. Chang. I hope we can have a pleasant cooperation," Lin Kuang said, standing up and extending his hand with a smile.
Seeing this, Chang Chun also rose quickly and shook it. "Yes, to a pleasant cooperation."
After shaking hands, Lin Kuang turned and left. Chang Chun wanted to ask him to stay for a meal, but Lin Kuang declined and departed directly.
Leaving the Qinghu International Hotel, Lin Kuang drove off. It occurred to him that he hadn’t eaten yet, and he felt a little annoyed. It would have been great to have eaten back there, he thought miserably as he drove straight back to the Mu Family’s villa.
As it turned out, his luck was pretty good. When he returned, Mu Wan and her mother were still at the table, eating lunch. Seeing this, Lin Kuang naturally joined them and ate heartily.
After the meal, Zeng Yuxiang went to clear the table, and Mu Wan took the opportunity to ask, "Is everything taken care of?"
"Yep, all settled. There’s just one more thing to resolve, and then we can leave," Lin Kuang said with a smile, clearly in high spirits.
Hearing this, Mu Wan nodded in understanding. She knew he was referring to the owner of the Slash Path Sword. "Yes, I know," she said with a smile.
"I’m going to head upstairs to practice," Lin Kuang said, smiling at Mu Wan. "I’m on the verge of a breakthrough, and it might happen in the next few days."
"Really?" Mu Wan asked excitedly. The stronger Lin Kuang became, the better his chances would be in the upcoming battle. His progress naturally made her happy.
"Of course. I need to train hard these next two days to push for the breakthrough. Don’t disturb me; I’ll be fine," Lin Kuang said with a smile.
"Okay, I’ll get a room ready for you," Mu Wan replied, leading him upstairs.
After she arranged a room for him, Lin Kuang sat cross-legged and immediately began his cultivation. Mu Wan didn’t disturb him, only praying quietly for his success.
Two days passed in the blink of an eye. On the evening of the third day, a young man in black, weary from his journey, appeared at the main gate of the Mu Family’s residence.
"This should be the place," the young man muttered, looking at the gate before him.
