Chapter 66 The Breeze of Change
Chapter 66 The Breeze of Change
The gate that appeared before Aaron was less a building and more a highly magical "symbol"—
The gate stood out of nowhere amidst the boundless yellow sand, the surrounding space appearing slightly distorted, a stark contrast to the everyday scenes commonly seen in Piltover and Zaun.
"That must be the export route!"
Jess was even more excited than Allen when he saw the sandstone-textured, earth-yellow gate.
He pointed to the door and urged Aaron, "Hurry, let's open the door quickly, then we should be able to get out."
Since Jayce had promised Aaron that he would personally oversee the disaster relief efforts in Zaun, he couldn't wait to go out when he saw the door that looked like an exit.
He didn't want to lose face in front of Aaron at all!
"Open the door?"
Aaron turned his head and glanced at Jess, his refusal obvious.
He genuinely felt that it was precisely because Piltover had been peaceful for so long that it had produced a fool like Jess who had absolutely no sense of crisis.
This is Runeterra, and they are in an unknown space.
Then you come across a door that looks unusual. How reckless would you have to be to try to push it open?
"Sit still."
Aaron shut Jess down with a single sentence.
Then, he piloted the Shadow Mech and carefully approached the earthen-yellow sandstone gate.
Because the door was not only tall enough, but also stood alone, Aaron instinctively wanted to go around to the back of the door after taking a look at it from the front.
At this moment, an unexpected event occurred—
The heavy Cheng Ying mech, weighing over ten tons, was about to circle around to the back of the gate when it suddenly seemed to have hit an invisible, solid wall, making a muffled "thud" sound!
Not to mention Jess, even Aaron was taken aback by this unexpected obstruction.
Although the impact was dampened by the cockpit, it only caused Aaron and his companion to sway slightly, but they exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with disbelief and shock.
"What's going on? Can't we get through?"
Jess's eyes widened: "There's an invisible wall here?!"
That should be the case.
"I understand now. This door really is the exit, because we've reached the end of the road, and the only way out is to open the door. So hurry up and open the door, this place should be..."
"Still figuring out how to open the door!"
Aaron interrupted Jess speechlessly.
How come he didn't realize before that Jess not only lacked cunning, but also lacked even the most basic vigilance?
"We still don't know exactly where we are, or if there are any dangers here, so some precautions are essential."
Aaron offered a brief explanation, then refused to pay any more attention to Jess.
He clenched his fist and, ignoring Jess's surprise, pounded the invisible wall several times.
Thump-thump—thump—!
"Hmm, it's very sturdy; it's probably some kind of magic."
Aaron nodded; this result was not unexpected.
Then, Aaron began to have the mech grope horizontally along the invisible wall.
He wanted to know where the edge of this invisible magical wall was, to see if it covered the entire cross-section of the cave.
"Hey, is it really necessary to be this careful?"
Jess frowned and couldn't help but ask a question.
He saw that Aaron, after confirming that the invisible wall completely covered the cave floor, was still not satisfied and wanted to take the mech into the air to test whether the area in the air was also completely sealed off.
"I admit you're right to be cautious, but if you finish testing and find that there's only one exit, won't you still have to push the door open and go out?"
"You can't possibly be planning to forcibly bombard this invisible wall and just refuse to go through the main gate, can you?"
"Huh?"
Aaron, unusually, picked up on Jess's words.
He rubbed his chin twice and piloted the mecha down from the sky.
"You were right, the entire cross-section here is blocked. We should definitely test it again with heavy firepower."
"Huh? No, you..."
Without waiting for Jess's permission, Aaron revealed the two vertical launch missile units on the back of the mech, ready to test them out.
But before Aaron could actually press the launch button, a breeze that shouldn't have been in the cockpit suddenly brushed against Aaron's cheek.
"You can enter the secret chamber by going through the main gate."
The faint, indistinct sound gently entered Aaron's ears, causing him to momentarily lose his senses.
"Okay, I... no!"
Aaron instinctively wanted to give a vague, half-asleep response.
But in an instant, his mind reacted quickly, and he immediately realized that there was a third person talking to him besides Jess!
"Who?!"
Aaron shouted and turned around to look.
However, he could only see Jess, who was startled by him.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Jess, unaware of the reason, asked a question.
He then curled his lip and said, "This is your mecha after all. If you really want to bomb something here, I can't stop you, but there's no need to suddenly turn around and scare me, is there?"
"Feel sorry."
Aaron apologized softly and shook his head gently.
Clearly, Jess hadn't heard the voice from earlier.
He stopped his preparation to bombard the invisible wall, carefully considering the possible origin of the voice and pondering the meaning of the words:
You can enter the secret treasure by going through the main gate... Does that mean there's a secret treasure vault behind this main gate?
What treasure troves are there near Twin Cities?
I don't think I've actually traveled all the way to Shurima!
And whose voice could that be?
Are they Protoss or demigods? Or perhaps just Void beings?
It can't be...
"I am your guardian angel."
Just as Aaron was thinking this, that elusive voice suddenly appeared again!
Aaron heard it clearly now; it was a soft, ethereal female voice.
He glanced at Jess and found him sitting there blankly, completely unresponsive—clearly, only he could hear the voice.
Or, as the other person said, they were only talking to themselves.
"A guardian deity...?"
Aaron's doubts not only remained unanswered, but actually multiplied.
He discovered that this woman seemed to know what he was thinking, so he simply tried calling out to her in his mind:
"You say you're my guardian angel, so what's your name? And where am I? How do I get out of here?"
"..."
no respond.
Aaron was immediately disappointed.
He exhaled and immediately began to think. Perhaps this sound, which only he could hear, was also a kind of magic, belonging to the mysterious door in front of him.
After all, the voice kept urging him to open the door.
Looking at it this way, perhaps the talk of a "secret treasure" is just a pretext; ultimately, it's this door that's bewitching us...
"Could you speak a little slower?"
Before Aaron could continue thinking, the voice that hadn't answered him immediately, like Internet Explorer, suddenly responded at this moment.
Her voice clearly carried a hint of grievance and human emotion:
"I can't hear people speaking too fast anymore, and I can't say too much at once."
"But I didn't lie to you."
"This is the underground ruins of Oshra Vazuan."
"……(Stuck and stopped)"
"Oshra Vazuan is Oshna Vazuan, which is the former Zaun."
"If you want to go out."
"……(Stuck and stopped)"
"You can enter the secret vault."
"This secret treasure is the tomb of Kalikan."
"Kalikan is..."
"Alright, alright, stop talking. It's exhausting to listen to!"
Aaron couldn't take it anymore and quickly interrupted the other person in his mind. He felt that if he continued to listen, he would break out in a sweat.
What kind of guardian spirit is this?
Aaron listened to the other person speaking short sentences intermittently for a full minute, even though it was less than a hundred words!
If this drags on any longer, Jess might start to wonder if he's gone mad.
"sorry."
The woman could sense Aaron's feelings and sincerely apologized to him, her voice filled with empathetic remorse:
"Your changes have woken me up."
"But after I rescued you and brought you here..."
"He lacks ability but talks too much."
"It's my fault, please don't..."
"etc!"
Aaron called for the woman to stop again.
He sat up abruptly, having keenly caught the key word in the other person's words and recalled the gentle breeze that had just brushed against his cheek—
"You mean change...the wind...the winds of change!"
Aaron's eyes widened suddenly:
"You're Janna!!"
