Chapter 12 Successfully Returning to Zhanglantas Village
Chapter 12 Successfully Returning to Zhanglantas Village
The moonlight was filtered through the tree canopy, scattering in patches of light and shadow on the road.
Luo Xu strode towards the village of Lantas. Sarah didn't say a word, but the arm around his neck tightened considerably.
Those bandits should have found the bodies of the two deserters by now and will definitely be searching the area. We need to get back to the village quickly.
He glanced back at Alina. She was a little out of breath, but her steps were still steady.
"Just hang in there, we'll be at the village soon."
Luo Xu slowed down, trying to keep her up with his pace.
Without the enhancements from the Mount & Blade system, Alina couldn't see the road at all and had to clear the way herself.
They made it safely out of the edge of the woods, and the village of Lantas came into view.
A patch of firelight shone at the entrance of the village, and several figures moved back and forth.
Luo Xu and the other two's eyes lit up, and they quickened their pace.
The firelight grew brighter and brighter, and the figures moving back and forth gradually became visible.
Walter and Galon stood at the front, followed by several militiamen holding torches and villagers preparing horses.
As they drew closer, Luo Xu heard their anxious shouts.
"Speedy, you guys search to the north, the rest of you follow me to the west."
The footsteps behind him suddenly stopped. Luo Xu turned around sharply and found Alina lying on the ground.
She was groaning in pain, trying to stand up but unable to.
"I'm fine... I just tripped."
Luo Xu quickly turned back, helped her up, and then supported her as they continued forward.
"Captain Walter!" Luo Xu shouted.
Walter, who was standing at the entrance of the village, felt a jolt on his shoulders and turned around abruptly.
Three figures emerged from the darkness. The stranger, Luo Xu, carried Sarah on his back, while supporting Alina with his left arm.
They're still alive!
"Damn it! You all come with me!" Walter said, and ran quickly toward Luo Xu.
Luo Xu struggled forward, his strength exhausted, and he began to stagger.
Walter was the first to arrive, and he helped Alina up.
Next were Galon and a woman of exceptional beauty.
Upon seeing the two, Sarah burst into tears: "Daddy, Mommy!"
Luo Xu gently put her down, and she immediately threw herself into their arms and burst into tears.
The metallic taste in his mouth grew stronger. Luo Xu took a step, but it felt like he had stepped into a swamp, and he fell forward.
All sounds receded rapidly, and darkness instantly swallowed all vision.
Darkness enveloped him completely, and he caught the last sound: "Ding! Your Charisma skill +5, your Charisma skill is now 5."
In a daze, Luo Xu felt someone lift him up and place him on a stable surface.
When he regained consciousness, he slowly opened his eyes.
What came into view was a low roof beam with several bundles of plants he didn't recognize hanging on it, and the air was filled with the smell of herbs.
This is where?
Luo Xu found himself lying on a narrow bed. He turned his head and saw Alina.
She sat on a low stool, her right arm in a splint, her head slightly bowed.
Even with her head down, you could see her red and swollen eyes.
As soon as Luo Xu moved, Alina raised her head.
"Luo Xu?" Her voice was a little hoarse, but couldn't hide the surprise in her words. "You're finally awake!"
Luo Xu tried to sit up, but Alina held him down: "Don't move, the herbalist said you were badly injured."
Luo Xu was slightly taken aback.
I was actually seeing the village doctor in Lantas village.
The village doctor was an old woman; he had only met her a few times.
He tried to speak, but suddenly felt an unusual dryness and itchiness in his throat, and coughed violently.
Alina immediately brought him a bowl of water and held it to his lips.
After the water slid down his throat, Luo Xu felt much better and asked:
"Elina, are you alright?"
Alina shook her head: "I just dislocated my arm, it'll be fine in a while."
"Where's Sarah?"
"Here it is," Sarah's voice came from the other side.
She was also lying on a narrow bed, her right foot strapped from ankle to calf in a splint, resting on a coarse cloth bag full of wheat bran.
Her eyes were slightly red, and a strange emotion flickered in her deep green eyes.
Footsteps suddenly came from the doorway.
An old woman carried in a bowl of herbal paste, followed by Galon and Galon's eldest son.
Seeing that Luo Xu had woken up, the old nanny said in an unquestionable tone, "You should not move around for the next few days and need to rest for a while."
She turned around and disappeared from sight.
"Luo Xu, thank you so much this time." Galon stepped forward and stuffed a cloth bag into Luo Xu's hand. "This is a token of my appreciation."
The cloth bag was quite heavy, and Luo Xu casually grabbed it, pulling out a handful of 50 dinars.
"Father, you haven't calculated Luo Xu's salary for today yet." Sarah's voice still had a slight nasal tone, but her tone was clear.
Galon glared at his daughter, then reluctantly pulled out thirty dinars from his pocket.
Sarah then showed a satisfied smile.
"Luo Xu," Galon's eldest son spoke up, "Come to my house to recuperate these next few days. There are clean beds and hot water there, much more comfortable than here."
"No need," Luo Xu shook his head and refused.
Although his thatched hut was dilapidated, he slept soundly.
"You should go and recuperate at Lord Galon's place," Alina tugged at his arm. "My right hand is dislocated right now, I can't take care of you at all."
Luo Xu thought about it and felt that what Sister Alina said made a lot of sense.
"Mr. Galon, then I'll go to your house to recuperate."
Galon nodded, his expression calm and revealing nothing of his thoughts, while Sarah, standing beside him, could not hide the joy on her face.
"Sister Alina," Luo Xu said, handing the cloth bag to Alina. "Take this money and use it for now."
Alina's right hand is now dislocated, making it difficult for her to do farm work.
She has two young children at home who need feeding, and this money will help her get through this most difficult period.
"No!" Alina was eager to return the money, but Luo Xu grabbed her and held her down.
"Marcus and Leah are growing, so don't let them go hungry. I'll need your help later, so consider it an investment on my part."
Alina hesitated for a long time before slowly accepting it.
"Elina, have you gone back?"
"No," Alina said, shaking her head. "I've been waiting by your side ever since you fell unconscious."
"Then you should go back first, Marcus and the others must be worried sick."
"it is good."
Alina glanced at Luo Xu, then suddenly bent down and hugged him: "Luo Xu, thank you. Without you, I wouldn't have been able to come back."
"Can you promise me something?" Luo Xu's lips curled up.
"Uh...you go ahead and say it." Alina felt that the sentence sounded familiar, but she couldn't quite place it.
"Promise me you won't skimp on that money. Marcus's biggest wish is to eat meat every day and buy Leah some new clothes..."
Luo Xu spoke at length.
Alina's eyes welled up with tears again: "Okay, I promise you. Take good care of yourself and recover."
Watching Alina's retreating figure, Luo Xu revealed a genuine smile.
At this moment, several villagers carrying a stretcher came in. The way they looked at Luo Xu was different from before; their eyes were full of admiration.
They gently placed Luo Xu on a stretcher and left the herbalist's house.
