Chapter 302 Peter's Worries
Chapter 302 Peter's Worries
Chapter 302 Peter's Worries
Although the reasons are different, the final conclusion and the resulting plot may be the same: Curt Connors of the 616 universe may release a serum throughout New York, just like the Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man, in an attempt to transform everyone into the Lizard.
So, could this lead to similar outcomes? Could Sheriff George Stacy be killed while hunting the Lizardmen?
Probably not. After all, it's not the same universe, and Peter has the Avengers helping him out, so something like that shouldn't happen.
Thinking of this, Peter couldn't help but sigh again. As the year drew to a close, Thor saw that Earth had no enemies and returned to Asgard early to guard Odin's hibernation. If Thor were still alive, there would be no need to worry about this at all; he could just swing his hammer and sweep away the cloud of serum.
So, what should we do?
"Peter? Why do you look so gloomy?"
Noticing Peter's worried expression, Aunt May quietly asked him if something was wrong. Seeing that Peter didn't respond after she called his name, she patted his hand and continued, "What's wrong, Peter? Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, Mei."
After he finished speaking, Peter suddenly remembered something, glanced at Uncle Ben who was also somewhat worried, and asked Aunt May a question: "Um, Aunt May, are you still going to the charity banquet today?"
"I go there every day."
"I'm planning to help out at the charity banquet today, you don't mind, do you?"
Seeing Peter's somewhat forced smile, Aunt May asked with concern, "Has something happened?"
"No, no... It's just some lab stuff. I wanted to change my mood, maybe go help out at Ciyan Banquet or something."
"Don't put too much pressure on yourself, Peter," Uncle Ben said with concern. "You can't solve everything by yourself; you have to learn to accept that."
"I knew that all along, Uncle Ben."
Peter laughed and then waited for Gwen to leave. He was going to school with Gwen today, or rather, he had something to say to her.
-
Gwen Stacy was drinking her milk while staring at her father. Sheriff George was reading his newspaper, and when he raised his coffee cup, he was surprised to see his daughter's gaze. He couldn't help but ask curiously, "What's wrong, Gwen? Is there something on my face?"
"Such severe dark circles under your eyes... How did you manage to make yourself even more exhausted after being promoted to a police inspector who no longer needs to respond to calls?"
"Duty, job, NPYD's motto, loyalty to the death." George smiled helplessly. "Last night, with most officers home, a mad scientist chose to hack into Osborn Technologies' building and create a giant... mini Godzilla."
"A giant mini-Godzilla? What does that mean?"
"As Spider-Man said, it might be a five-meter-tall Godzilla. Compared to Godzilla, it's definitely miniature, but that thing is much bigger than the Hulk." George explained the situation: "The Avengers might need to deal with that monster, but we need to bring that mad scientist called Doctor Octopus back. Osborn Technology happens to be in the jurisdiction of our 12th Precinct."
I think I've heard Peter mention Doctor Octopus before. He's a big bad guy, but in his perfect world, he's not beyond redemption. It's really strange.
"And you, Gwendolyn? Did something good happen this time?"
"...Why do you say that?"
"My gut feeling tells me you seem really, well, happy. And you've been wearing nicer clothes these past few days, and you're paying more attention to your appearance..." Sheriff Stacy asked a question that's particularly important to a father: "Do you have a boyfriend?"
"……No."
Sheriff Stacy asked uncertainly, "Really not?"
"I do want a boyfriend, but I don't have one."
"So you dress up so carefully to attract guys?"
"Of course not!" Gwen rolled her eyes, speechless. "Is that how you see your daughter?"
"I was just pointing out how strange what you said was, so tell me more, what exactly happened?" Sheriff Stacy asked curiously. Gwen blushed slightly, but finally smiled and said, "I, um, I'm trying to go on a date with Peter."
"Peter?" Sheriff Stacy asked uncertainly. "Which Peter? Peter Benjamin Parker?"
"Yes, which Peter could I possibly know?"
Sheriff Stacy hesitated for a long time, then burst into a hearty laugh like Jonah Jameson's, which annoyed Gwen. After he finished laughing, she shook her head helplessly: "Impossible, impossible. I know Parker. He's a smart, helpful, very sunny, kind-hearted kid. He's excellent, very, very excellent. How... how could he possibly like you?"
???
Although she knew her father might say that, Gwen still couldn't hold back when he actually said it: "Dad?!"
"Okay, okay, I won't laugh anymore." Sheriff Stacy shook her head helplessly. "So, you just said you wanted to find... oh, I see. You realized you like Peter, but he might not have agreed to date you, so you're planning to..."
"Try going on a few more dates with him."
Sheriff Stacy shook her head and laughed again.
"I don't know why he became so popular in high school. In junior high, there weren't many girls around him."
"So, all I can do is wish you good luck." Sheriff Stacy shrugged. "But if one day I could become in-laws with Benjamin, oh my god, that would be the happiest day of my life."
Gwen sighed helplessly, slung her backpack over her shoulder, and prepared to leave for school. As she left her house, she saw Peter sitting at her doorstep waiting for her. Slightly surprised and somewhat happy, she went over to him and asked, "What's wrong? Doesn't Spider-Man have to go on patrol today?"
"The alarm system didn't say what the problem was, so you don't need to go for now. Go to school."
The two of them, carrying their backpacks, were heading to the subway station. On the way, before Gwen could say anything, Peter spoke first: "There are some things, Gwen, that I need to tell you. They're very important."
"Oh, um... okay."
She felt her voice drop three degrees: "Tell me, it's something I can accept."
"I need to tell Sheriff Stacy my true identity—what do you mean by 'acceptable'?"
Peter looked at Gwen in confusion, but Gwen's mouth was already agape in astonishment: "You...you're going to tell my dad?"
Although Sheriff Stacy has been promoted to Inspector, I still habitually call her Sheriff.
