Chapter 603 - 24: A Life for a Life
Chapter 603 - 24: A Life for a Life
The citizens of Yumi Country standing outside had stayed far enough away, so they weren’t too affected.
Everyone had witnessed this scene with their own eyes, and all unconsciously opened their mouths wide, faces full of horror.
Such a method was practically a miracle!
These Esoteric Monks had previously been exalted gurus in Yumi Country, possessing all sorts of inconceivable means, Immune to Blade and Spear, impervious to water and fire, and it was said they were protected by Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
But now, these Esoteric Monks had been grievously wounded and slaughtered by a single great shout from Chen Tang, swept away like dead wood.
Any so-called Buddha’s protection or Protecting Divine Skill was useless.
"What happened, what happened?"
More and more people surged toward the Mahayana Buddha Palace; those in the rear only heard a single shout, but had no idea what was happening inside.
"I heard the people in front say the Esoteric Sect wanted to give His Highness the Demon Monarch a show of force, but His Highness the Demon Monarch let out one angry roar and crippled all those Esoteric Monks!"
The crowd cried out in shock.
"Is Lord Demon Monarch a demon or a Buddha? To seek justice for a complete stranger, he actually stormed the Mahayana Buddha Palace himself."
"Lord Demon Monarch said it himself, he’s just a Blade Master!"
The crowd loosened a bit and continued to slowly surge forward.
Chen Tang was still holding the corpse of the Jiang Clan woman as he walked toward the main hall, ignoring the countless Esoteric Monks around him screaming in misery.
Miji Vajra looked at Chen Tang drawing closer and closer, and a flash of panic passed through his eyes.
That earlier Lion’s Roar had truly given him a fright!
This kind of method could only be called earth-shattering.
The two of them were both Third Grade Meridian Passage, both Body Refining Martial Artists, but in front of Chen Tang he felt a tremendous pressure, actually giving rise to a feeling that he could not resist at all!
In that instant when they merely stared at each other, Miji Vajra knew he had lost.
He absolutely could not make a move against Chen Tang; otherwise, he would be defeated without doubt!
"Impressive methods, Your Highness the Demon Monarch."
Miji Vajra forced out a smile, made a gesture of invitation, and said, "Our two senior brothers have already prepared tea and refreshments in the hall and are waiting for Your Highnesses to come inside."
Originally, he had wanted to show off some methods in front of Chen Tang.
But when Chen Tang walked up close, he completely lost the arrogance he’d had at the start.
Chen Tang merely gave him a bland glance, his steps never stopping, brushing past him shoulder to shoulder and taking the lead into the great hall.
"Do you recognize her?"
Chen Tang asked.
Miji Vajra’s gaze flickered; he shook his head and said, "I do not."
Once inside the great hall, Chen Tang immediately saw the Human Skin Murals the Yin Demon had mentioned.
The walls all around and the stone pillars were covered with murals; each one was carved with intricate patterns, yet Chen Tang only felt nauseated, the killing intent in his heart growing ever heavier!
"This must be His Highness the Demon Monarch."
Just then, two tall figures walked side by side toward them from the front, both wearing red monk robes, half their torsos exposed, with thick arms faintly gleaming with golden light.
The man on the left was stern and solemn, like a giant spirit, a string of prayer beads hanging around his neck and drooping down his chest.
Each bead was segmented, clearly strung together from human finger bones.
The man on the right had eyes like torches, his gaze seemingly containing a terrifying power that made others afraid to meet it!
This one was holding a skull bowl in both hands; it was filled with liquid that gave off a strange smell, even somewhat rank, as he walked toward Chen Tang.
Great Virtuous Vajra, Time Wheel Vajra!
Both were Body Refining Martial Artists, Second Grade Innate Realm!
"Your Highness the Demon Monarch, I believe there must be some misunderstanding between us."
Time Wheel Vajra held the skull bowl in both hands and said loudly, "This is our Esoteric Sect’s Five Nectars; only the most distinguished guests of the Mahayana Buddha Palace are qualified to drink it. By order of our master, I have filled a bowl to offer Your Highness the Demon Monarch a taste."
Chen Tang’s expression did not change; he only tilted his head to stare at Miji Vajra and slowly asked, "Where is her daughter?"
"This humble monk does not know what Your Highness is talking about."
Miji Vajra calmed his mind and smiled.
Chen Tang said, "A堂堂 Esoteric Sect Dharma Protector Vajra, you dare to do it but don’t dare admit it?"
Miji Vajra saw that his two senior brothers had already come over, and his heart settled.
Besides, this was the Mahayana Buddha Palace after all; with their master and mistress, the two Grandmasters, sitting in town, no matter how strong the Demon Sect was, these people were only disciples of the Demon Venerable. Would they really dare run wild here?
Provoked by Chen Tang, Miji Vajra let out a cold snort and said, "Her daughter has already been made into a Human Skin Mural by me. If Your Highness likes it, I can give it to you."
"As long as you admit it."
Chen Tang nodded.
Miji Vajra secretly braced himself and said in a deep voice, "What is there I wouldn’t admit? I did it, so what?"
Chen Tang said blandly, "Nothing much—only that a life is repaid with a life."
Before the words had fallen, a flash of saber light!
Miji Vajra had long been on guard, but when he saw that saber light flash past, only a single thought remained in his mind.
Such a fast blade!
Splurt!
A spray of blood.
Miji Vajra’s head was lopped off by a single stroke of Chen Tang’s blade!
To kill a Third Grade, Chen Tang didn’t even need to activate Divine Illumination.
The speed of the Burning Wood Saber alone was enough.
"Ah!"
Great Virtuous Vajra and Time Wheel Vajra had just come up close when they saw this horrifying scene; their faces changed drastically, and they cried out in shock.
Let alone them—even the Yin Demon was startled.
Chen Tang opening a slaughter down the mountain was one thing.
After all, the people he killed were, at most, a King of Yumi, of no real consequence.
But the man before them was one of Monk Fa Qing’s personally taught disciples, a Dharma Protector Vajra!
And this was the Mahayana Buddha Palace.
More importantly, not only Miji Vajra—even the Yin Demon hadn’t reacted in time.
Miji Vajra had still been talking just a moment ago, and in the next, his body and head were separated!
He hadn’t even taken a single saber strike!
If he’d managed to hold out for even one or two exchanges, he and the two Dharma Protector Vajras would have had time to act together and stop Chen Tang.
"Demon Monarch, you go too far!"
Great Virtuous Vajra roared, his voice like a great bell, incomparably imposing.
Time Wheel Vajra shouted harshly, "Refining Human Skin Murals is a custom of our Esoteric Sect, a tradition of Yumi Country. Even the Demon Venerable hasn’t said anything. You, Demon Monarch, what great majesty—you actually come to our Esoteric Sect’s Buddha Palace to kill people!!"
Seeing the situation turn bad, the Yin Demon hurriedly said, "What the two Dharma Protector Vajras say is right, little junior brother, when in Rome, we must do as the Romans do!"
Chen Tang slowly laid the Jiang Clan woman’s corpse down.
Perhaps some unseen sense of connection was at work, for just after he had cut down Miji Vajra with that stroke, the Jiang Clan woman’s eyes, which had been open, quietly closed.
Chen Tang rose, looked at the two Dharma Protector Vajras opposite him, and said in a grim tone, "If treating human life like grass is an Esoteric Sect custom and a Yumi Country tradition, then all of you can go die."
"What a big mouth! If you don’t give me an explanation today, none of you should think of leaving!"
Just then, a light shout came from behind the main hall.
A man and a woman were racing toward them, their Body Technique so fast they were like thunder!
Esoteric Sect Leader Monk Fa Qing and Consort Luo, the two Grandmasters, appeared at the same time!
At the same time, numerous Esoteric Monks appeared all around the main hall, swarming in to encircle the area tightly, not letting even a drop of water through.
From start to finish, the Death Demon’s face stayed expressionless.
If things went as Monk Fa Qing had said and they all ended up being kept here, that would be fine too.
If the little junior brother couldn’t get away, at least he wouldn’t have to keep watching him every day.
When their master returned, they could sort it out then.
